Top Tips to keep your candle burning longer

Top Tips to keep your candle burning longer

You've taken the plunge and bought your favourite Lily & Faith candle, now you want to make it last. With our natural blend of rapeseed and coconut wax you could get over 80 hours burn time, but you have to look after your candle. Here are our tips to get the most out of our candles.

1. The first burn matters

Wax has memory so to make sure your candle doesn't tunnel, the first time you light it allow the wax pool to reach the edge of the jar. For our candles this is usually around 2 hours. This will help the wax burn evenly down your jar, avoiding the tunnelling that can lead to lots of waste wax on the jar.

2. Trim your wick

Before lighting your candle trim your wick to about ¼ inch. Your wick is trimmed to perfection when it arrives but after you have lit it remember to trim each time. This will help keep your flame controlled and ensure a stable burn, which will also support your wax to burn down evenly. Wick Trimmers are great for a clean, easy way to keep your wick tidy.

3. Don't burn for longer than 4 hours

To make sure your jar doesn’t overheat never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Tempting though it may be, especially in winter, never have your candles burning for long periods of time. Your jar will get hot while lit too so don’t touch the jar while it's lit and leave to cool before handling.

4. Snuff it out

Using a snuffer lid can be the most effective way to put out your candle, as it reduces smoke and blowing can often displace the wax.

5. Stay safe

And for safety, never leave a lit candle unattended. Always burn on an even heat resistant surface out of reach of children and pets.
